Bangor on Dee Salmon Anglers are a fishing club providing Salmon, Trout and Coarse fishing on many beautiful stretches of the Welsh River Dee, in and around the historic town of Bangor on Dee near Wrexham, North Wales.
Bangor on Dee Salmon Anglers had an existing Drupal 6 website. Drupal 6 had come to ‘end of life’ and as such it was no longer possible for the website to be supported. With the website storing member information, it was important that a new solution was implemented that could be securely maintained.
The existing website was not mobile responsive and the committee of Bangor on Dee Salmon Anglers recognised that they were missing out on a significant amount of membership – a new mobile ready solution was required.
Bangor on Dee Salmon Anglers already had a brand and logo design so it was important that any solution not only maintained, but enhanced their brand.
There was also a remit to make more use of the member’s section of the website as the current member’s section of the website was under-used.
It was decided to upgrade the website to Drupal 7 as Drupal 8, at the time, was not fully stable and support for all the required Drupal 8 modules was not available.
Siruss architected and designed a solution that would be perfect for this upcoming and expanding fishing club.
Our designers provided stunning new designs for both visitor and member only pages, including a new member dashboard for quickly displaying fresh information to logged in and registered members.
The client loved our concept and designs for the new website.
Due to the many and often significant changes between Drupal 6 and Drupal 7, a new theme was developed from the ground up to match the new designs. The new theme being mobile first and optimised for use on all devices and screen sizes.
Static gallery images were migrated from the old website and a new tag driven gallery was developed for the new website to allow one click categorisation and searching of related content.
To add value to the member’s area of the website, a members only forum was built into the website and a private message system was incorporated for members to chat to each other. Weather widgets were added and animated graphs of the current river level were also incorporated with the graph being updated dynamically every 2 hours from the NRW (Natural Resource Wales) river gauges.
For the general website visitor, the new website delivers simple navigation into the most relevant areas of the website, for all 3 fishing disciplines and to inform the visitor what is available from joining the club.
Multiple levels of administration were built into the website, ranging from website administrator, through forum administrator to blog contributor. This allows roles and responsibilities to be passed onto members of the club and ease the load of the hard working committee.
The Siruss SEO & Digital Marketing team performed an SEO setup on the new website, optimising all pages and ensuring that all relevant redirects were put into place to minimise any loss of ranking with the search engines.
